A look at seal mealy horses around the world and on a variety of different breeds.
The mealy gene affects the same soft spots as agouti does on a brown base, making them a bit confusing when it comes to visual identification. For both the soft spots including muzzle, belly, flank, elbows and eyes display growth of lighter hairs. On a brown they become a reddish color and on a mealy they are lightened, sometimes to a creamy white. Together they actually make for a nice mix and maybe most truly represents the name black and tan.
