Chestnut Mealy or Pangare Horses

A look at chestnut mealy horses around the world and on a variety of different breeds.

The mealy modifier on a chestnut base isn’t as dramatic as it is on darker colors, but can still be quite striking. The pangare gene only affects the soft spots including belly, flank, elbow, muzzle and eye areas. It may affect different parts of the same animal in different degrees, while the lighter area expression varies from a tiny patch to the entire underside. It is often found in conjunction with the flaxen modifier.
