Horses With White Sclera

A look at horses with white sclera around the world and on a variety of different breeds.

This is one of the face markings most often associated with appaloosa white patterns, which can often be found with white sclera. Pintos can also display a white sclera when there is white patch over the eye. However, it can also be found in solid animals that don’t look spotty. While it can also come from eye injuries, generally a light colored sclera is nothing to be concerned about. Also called piggy eye, whale eye and human eye, they can look remarkably human at times. Their eyes able to convey emotions that horses probably don’t really have, like exasperation. Some of the examples pictured below almost look annoyed, and one looks like it has a little secret.
