Horses with Medicine Hat Face Markings

A look at horses with medicine hat markings around the world and on a variety of different breeds.

Also called the moroccan pattern, medicine hat is generally only seen on a pintos. This is a backward marking, the poll and ears are dark, but must be surrounded completely by white. A true medicine hat is mostly white on the body and has blue eyes as well. Very similar to and often confused with war bonnet markings, which are very similar. Interestingly, we found an leopard appaloosa with dark ears surrounded by white, technically it fits the mark, so we’ve added it just for fun.
