The silver dilution gene isn’t as dramatic on a bay base as it is on a black one, because it only affects black pigment. The body color remains standard bay colors but the mane and tail turn a silvery flaxen, while points that would ordinarily be black become a dark chocolate brown. They are often visually confused with a red flaxen and in some cases would need genetic tests to tell the difference.
