Lately I’ve been hard at work on my breeds section, so it’s on my mind. Which means I’ll be writing about them from time to time, I’m not joking when I say there are a lot of them. Plus I’m growing proud of how comprehensive the list has become.
As I’m adding them by letter I decided to share them the same way & dedicate a post to each letter of the alphabet. I’ve already profiled a few of the breeds that begin with A, but the list seems to take a life of it’s own and keeps growing.

There are a lot of horse breeds in this world of ours and I’m determined to catalogue and find images of them all. I’ve been hard at work on the task and am slowly trudging my way through the alphabet. (Who knew there were so many?)
It’s pretty amazing how essential the horse has been in the building of civilization, whether it’s working the land to provide food, carrying our stuff or simply giving us a ride into town.
Our history is inextricably entertained and our needs have shaped almost every breed on the planet.
Horses have to watch what they eat, not to maintain a slender figure, but because there are so many plants out there that are toxic to them.
When I started writing my toxic plants section it quickly became comical as I started recognizing (& photographing) the many plants I was writing about in my daily life. I chose the pics below mainly because they are so common.
Horses are smart and will generally avoid plants that are toxic to them, however they can become a problem during drought circumstances when natural forage is limited.

It’s that time again, horse breed Thursday and today we have a great variety to share, although sadly one of them is facing extinction.
The breeds for this week are an interesting & distinct bunch, from the Aralusian who embodies the blood of two ancient breeds (Arabian & Andalusian), the strong & handsome Ardennes and the highly endangered Arenberg-Nordkirchener

Today we learn more about three different horse breeds of the world & like last week, these three are all connected by Arabian blood.
The breeds for this week all come from the granddaddy of many horse breeds, the mighty and beautiful Arabian whose blood flows through the veins of a wide variety of breeds & types. Today we’ll take a look at the lovely Arabo-Friesian, the adorable Arab-Haflinger & the mighty Araboulonnais.
Regardless of the cross, the Arabian blood always lends a refined & dignified air.

The breeds for this week all come from the granddaddy of many horse breeds, the mighty and beautiful Arabian whose blood has refined many a modern breed. Today we’ll also take a look at the colorful AraAppaloosa & the ancient Arabian-Berber cross.
With their well-shaped ears, arched neck and high-set tail the Arabian is one of the most physically appealing (and recognizable) of all horse breeds.
Today we begin taking a look at three breeds at a time & I’ll share them in alphabetical order so the mix will remain nice and random.
The breeds for this week are an interestingly similar mix the lovely appaloosa, it’s cousin the Appaloosa Sport Horse and the Appendix Quarter Horse (which, interestingly enough may also carry appaloosa white patterns).
All three are fairly new breeds from North America, each one created with a specific purpose in mind.
