Regardless of your riding discipline, chances are you use a leather saddle & leather equipment. Proper care of your leather will make it last longer and keep everything in good working order.
On a horse, every strap counts so keeping them in good shape is more than just important, it’s essential. Routine cleaning & oiling provides you an opportunity to give your tack a thorough inspection for safety issues. This video provides some quick basics for the care of your saddle, the single most important piece of any riders equipment (although the tips can be used to care for all leather items).
Remember, any equipment that has been stored away should also be cleaned and inspected prior to use, it could mean the difference between a great ride and a nasty fall.
does the the one step oil actually help? my only concern with it is that when you use it I dont feel that my equipment is pliable enough afterwards. It’s to watered down. Also what is the frequency suggested for oiling your saddle? I’ve only ever really done it about once or twice a year, before and after summer usually.
