Origins
The Piquira Pony is a relatively recent pony breed from Brazil, they were created by crossing local Crioulo with small pony breeds (mostly Shetland).
From the start breeding has been based on two basic characteristics, size and gait, with a variety of pony breeds being used for specific characteristics.

Head is well proportioned and expressive with a straight profile
Eyes are large and active
Neck is light but muscular
Back is short, straight and muscular
Legs are sturdy with strong joints
Hooves are round and hard
