During the 15th century the Naples area became rather famous in the surrounding regions for breeding quality horses. The best animals were bred & kept by nobles and used as transportation or military mounts. Initially the animals were small, coarse and sturdy for carrying armed soldiers, however the introduction of guns incited a need for smaller, quicker animals.
Slowly the animals were made lighter & more refined using horses of desert & Asian descent.
