Intro
While the Halla Horse is very much a South Korean breed (they are named for the Hallasan Volcano on Jeju Island) they are also commonly found in Indonesia.
Origins
Halla’s are a combination of Jeju ponies and Thoroughbred, along with other fast Western breeds. The original goal was to improve the local Jeju type, making them faster and slightly larger.
The result was a small, fast saddle horse which was divided into two different types, one bred for speed and one bred to maintain the robust nature of the native Jeju.
