Recently I’ve been featuring horses in art by color and I’ve already shared some of the basic colors, white, red and black (pt.1). Black seems to be a popular color for artists who paint horses so here is part two of their collection.
While I love all horses equally, like many I have a think for a pure black animal. There is something stately and noble in an animal with a shiny blue-black coat. These artists seem to agree (as did many of their subjects). Which one is your favorite?
Prince Alexander Nikolayevich – Franz Krüger
Furusiyya – January Suchodoiski
Black Horse in the Sun – Giovanni Fattori
The Phaeton of the Prince of Wales – George Stubbs
General Pershing – Jan Chelminski
Horse and Foal in the Stables – Benno Adam
War – Henri Rosseau
George IV – John Singleton Copley
Hercules – Wiktor Michajlowitsch Wassnezow
More Colors
Stay tuned for some of the more unique colors in horse art, I found a lot of colorful animals! For now be sure to take a look at some white, red and more black horses as well.
Thank you again!
love this. Are there prints of the mare and foal in the stable ??
Am presuming you have done red and Stubbs Wistlejacket?
