The Swedish Equestrian Federation has announced it will introduce a minimum age limit of 13 for riders competing at elite levels.
The age limit will be applied to international events, national championships and national series to promote safer, more supportive development for young athletes. Riders under 13 can still participate in competitions, but not in the highest-pressure categories. The change will begin to go into effect in January 2027 and fully implemented by 2029. Current elite competitors won’t be pushed out, as the rule will be phased in fairly.
