This fantastic action shot was taken on 14th Street in Union Square, Manhattan at some point during 1894. It seems Union Square has always been a hub of activity, although quite different types of activities were photographed back then.
Why We Like It
Even though it was taken over a century ago, this image is photographed well enough that you can almost hear the street sounds. It is not exceptional subject matter, the horses look tired and the streetcars are busy. Maybe it’s rush hour or maybe Manhattan has always been subject to bad traffic. Just for fun, we think we’ve got the same angle along 14th St of Union Square pictured below (the best we could do anyway). The difference is striking, 1894 Union Square had a lot more soul, that’s for sure.
