Ore Teams in Arizona – Horse Image of the Week

A long line of mules harnessed to strings of huge ore wagons
They aren’t all horses, but this image was too interesting not to share. Taken in Pinal County, Arizona during 1897, where gold, silver and large quantities of copper had been discovered mid-century.

Why We Like It

These are huge teams of what appear to be mules and horses lined up to pull four enormous ore wagons strung together. Given the size of those wagons, our guess that is this was a copper mine. It’s not often you see images taken from height in the days before helicopters and drones, so it’s an interesting perspective. Obviously the photographer had to hike in the Arizona heat to get his shot, but it’s magnificent.
