Horse Cart in Madras – Horse Image of the Week

Horse and cart in India
All the way from India circa 1870, today’s image is such an interesting contrast to some of the other horse-drawn carriages we’ve posted from the same era. Showing us interesting cultural and geographical differences.

Why We (Mostly) Like It

Sadly, that skinny little horse looks like it has skipped a few meals. However he does look like a sturdy little thing and was probably tough as nails. We aren’t sure what breed it was, but it was likely an Indian country bred which is known for a wide variety in conformation and appears lighter than some of the mountain pony breeds native to northern India.

India. Of course. I knew it the moment I laid eyes on that poor, mistreated ,beaten, starved, innocent, helpless little horse. Thoroughly disgusted. India.
