Civil War Camp – Horse Image of the Week

American Civil War Camp
Today’s photo is a working scene from a civil war camp showing winter huts and corduroy roads at some point in the early 1860s. A snapshot taken in a troubled time.

Why We Like it

The date of posting this photo was purely coincidental, but the irony is not lost on us. This looks like a tranquil camp scene, however in truth it was full of tension, anger and fear. We aren’t sure what kind of horses they are (are they horses? Mules?). They do appear to be uniformly dark and not a white marking in sight. The wagons are obviously in line for something, what could it be? Maybe supplies for front lines? Probably depends on the date and location it was taken. It’s interesting nonetheless, notice the ghost images where people and animals have moved.
