In the world of equines it is understood that there are a wide variety of horse breeds, however within the horse world (and even some breeds) there are a number of types.

The List

Not all of the types listed below are officially recognized and some of them overlap. However they are used within the various industries in the horse world and are a different way of categorizing the equine animal.

Checking For Gut Sounds

Click to see VideoAlthough it may sound strange to someone who doesn’t know the equine animal, gut sounds are like music to a horse owner’s ears.

In a nutshell, no gut sounds usually means problems. Horses cannot vomit, so there is only one way out, which can present some very obvious problems.

Keeping Colic Away

This video covers how to listen to the gut of a horse you suspect has colic. However, part of any horse owner’s daily routine should be to check for gut sounds.

Really Huge White Horses

White HorseRecently I started writing a post about the Wiltshire White Horses in the UK when I came to realize just how many there actually were. As I started visiting them via Google earth I realized I had a series of posts on my hands. Each one is interesting in their own right.

I don’t know if a horse on the bottle makes the wine taste better, but for horse lovers it might. So I took a little wine journey around the Internet to see how many breweries used our equine friend as a totem.

I believe most of these are located in the US & I’m quite sure horsey wine isn’t limited to American vineyards. If anyone knows of other horse theme brands I’d love to hear about them.

Disclaimer: I haven’t tried a single one of these wines, so drink at your own risk!

Horse Stamps 4

Throwing away my posting schedule has forced me to do some summer cleaning, and in doing so I always find fun ideas I’d forgotten about.

I love the colorful horse stamps and was delighted to find this additional post of them, (you have to love finding half finished material). This is the fourth part in the collection, so if you haven’t seen parts one, two & three be sure to take a look.

The equine stamps I’ve found come from all over the globe, although it seems Germany & Russia lead the pack in sheer numbers.

History of the Pinto Breeds

Click to see VideoOut of all of the amazing horse colors out there, I must confess that pintos have always been my favorite.

Perhaps it’s the interesting splotchy shapes or the lovely contrast between stark white and dark colors. Whatever it is, the bonus is that they come in all shapes & sizes & can be found in many breeds.

This video provides a (very) brief look at the history of pinto breeds & their different types.

Horses in Fashion

Equestrian Fashion Ad

The equine animal seems to be good friends with haute couture and can often be found hanging out near fashion shoots. In fact, I found so many fashion ad that use them, I had to break my collection up into two parts.

Although I have to admit that I find swimsuit advertising using horses a bit strange. Really, who wants to ride a horse in their swimsuit?
