Recently it has come to my attention that some popular fabric softeners are not very animal-friendly. In fact, many of them coat the fibers of your fabrics with rendered animal fat to make them soft. In short, fabric softener is part of the reason horses are being slaughtered in this country.

Abstract Horse
Taking a week off of horse jobs to do something unexpected and fun on a Monday. I’ve always been a big fan of photography, (horses in specific) but some of the horse photographers I’ve featured have given me a whole new view of horse images.
I did some searching and tracked down fantastic shots that show an abstract side of the equine animal.

Horse Pictures From Azerbaijan
Horse cultures can be found in all corners of the globe and it’s important that we preserve them. The onslaught of mechanization during the 20th century redefined our relationship with this noble animal. We want to celebrate all horse cultures of he world, even if we find some of them disagreeable.

Home At Last Sanctuary
Jim and I are retired educators and we both faced and survived life threatening issues- breast cancer for me and a terrible auto accident for Jim. In 2004 to celebrate our recoveries we decided to get a mule. We had horses in our younger days, but it had been over 20 years since we had them.
How We Started
We found a mule- May Belle- at The Sunshine Sanctuary in Los Molinas CA. When May Belle arrive she came with two surprises- Jessie, another mule, and Sweet, a Kiger mustang. We were thrilled. Within a few weeks we started getting calls about taking old, injured or unwanted horses.

The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson
Recently I was contacted by Fran Jurga about an interesting new book that is worth checking out called The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson.
The Background
This is a true story of Mr. Isaacson’s son, Rowan who was diagnosed with autism, a condition which made communication with him almost impossible. An encounter with the neighbor’s horse became a shining moment which helped to pull Rowan out of his shell and improve his condition.
The Story
This enlightened moment inspired Rupert to take his son to the steppes of Mongolia, where horses have long been an ingrained and spiritual part of everyday life. There they hoped to consult shamans for help with Rowan’s condition.
Horse Boy is the story of the Isaacson family’s adventure in Mongolia, their trials and tribulations as they wander the landscape of autism and find a connection with nature. Absolutely without a doubt going to be a tearjerker.
