The American Indian Horse is known by many names, including Indian Pony, Cayuse, Buffalo Horse and Cow Pony.
The ancestors of these animals were brought to the US by the Spanish during their colonization of the west. The Spanish were smart horsemen and only brought their strongest mounts on the journey west. Thus the strongest animals of the strongest Spanish strains were the ones that made it across.

Horses are pretty graceful for such big animals, a powerful stride and strong hind legs both contribute to their grace over fences.
The past few weeks I’ve been sharing my collections of horses in motion, giving each type of movement it’s own day to shine.
This week it’s all about jumping, regardless of what they are jumping most horses manage to do it in style. I come from a jumper background and I really appreciate the work (from horse and rider both) it takes to make it through a clear round.
So far I’ve covered the motions of rearing, running, playing & bucking, and there are more to come.
My recent fascination with horse artists and photographers has led me to some pretty amazing individuals and organizations. One in particular I really like is Art for Critters, which several of the artists I’ve interviewed are connected with.
Art for Critters features artists from around the world who donate a portion of their art sales to help animal charities. Each donation goes to food, housing and medical care for an animal in need.

This is the second part of a two part series (here is part 1) featuring some amazing images of the Smithfield Horse Market & Fair in Dublin, Ireland.
The market is held on the first Sunday of every month and during that time the market is flooded with horses and those looking to buy and sell them. This monthly spectacle has been a tradition for the last 200 years or so.
The images below do a great job of capturing horses in an urban setting and the obvious excitement that hangs in the air on market days.

The horses in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) are obviously used far more for business than pleasure. Whether it is for the tourist industry, work horses or transportation.
The Burmese pony is a breed local to the area. This breed is similar in confirmation to the Bhutia, Spiti and Manipuri ponies who collectively carry Mongolian and Arabian blood.
Due to a lack of strict breeding practices the lines of distinction between theses ponies have been blurred.

The American Drum Horse is a relatively new breed, however their lineage is part of what makes them so special.
Drum horses were originally used by the Queen of England as part of her ceremonial band. They had to be sturdy and calm enough to carry a rider with large kettle drums through large crowds of people.

There are few things more poetic and perfect than watching a horse run (especially when they are at liberty).
I probably say that every horse motion is my favorite, but really, I love watching a horse run the best.
Often I hear people say they wish they could be a bird to see what it feels like to fly. Not me, make me a horse and give me a green field to run in any day.
I’ve already visited the motions of rearing, playing & of course bucking, and I’ve got more to come.
