Horse cultures can be found in all corners of the globe and it’s important that we preserve them. The onslaught of mechanization during the 20th century redefined our relationship with this noble animal. We want to celebrate all horse cultures of he world, even if we find some of them disagreeable.
Rich History
Azerbaijan is a small country located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Along with Georgia and Armenia, this whole area has a rich horse history and home to ancient breeds of horse. Many of them mountain types which have been infused with the blood of desert breeds, generally Arabian or Turkish animals.

Breeds of Azerbaijan
The breeds of this nation are generally very old, based on a native mountain type horse made lighter and more refined by the blood of sleek desert breeds. The results are handsome animals that are tough as nails. Lack of large centralized breeding programs means that breeds are similar genetically, with some localized traits. The foundation types are solid so most of their horses look robust and healthy. We suspect that Garabakh and Karabakh are the same breed, with different translation spelling.
