It’s Monday morning and time to learn about another plant that has it in for your horse. Today we’ll take a closer look at an incredibly colorful toxic beauty, Cyclamen.
A Little About Cyclamen
Primulaceae is Cyclamen, also called Persian Violet, Sowbread. This is a perennial herb with many heart-shaped, variegated and toothed leaved, fragrant red, pink or white flowers have five petals and nod.
How Dangerous Is It?
This isn’t a particularly high threat to your horse. They are generally used in gardens and for landscaping so contact will be limited anyway – not to mention they just aren’t palatable to equines.
The roots of this plant are toxic to equines.
What To Look For
You know your animal the best, so you should know when something is amiss. Cyclamen toxicity symptoms can include irritation of the mouth & throat, gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, convulsions and paralysis.
