Appaloosa Horses with Mottled Skin

A look at appaloosa horses with mottled skin around the world and on a variety of different breeds.

Animals with an appaloosa white pattern can often be recognized by mottling or small dots around their mucus membranes (mouth, eyes and genitals). On light or pink skin the freckles are dark and on dark skin they are pink or white. Not all appaloosas will have skin mottling and it varies considerably in expression. This trait is one that generally increases with age.
