A look at dark or mahogany bay horses around the world and on a variety of different breeds.
The darkest of the bay shades and easily mistaken for brown animals (which may be slightly different genetically). The body color ranges from a deep reddish brown to an almost brownish black color. While mane, tail and points remain black, although they can show white markings on the face and legs. Mahogany is not the most common bay color, but is perhaps most likely to produce those lovely bay dapples.
