How To Apply Polo Wraps

Click to see VideoAlthough it seems like a relatively simple task, applying polo wraps properly is not as easy as it looks. Placement, tightness, and direction of application must all be taken into consideration.

This handy video provides a crash course for applying wraps (in general) but specifically polo wraps for workouts. They are a great way to protect legs from trauma as well as damage during exercise, not to mention they are a fun way to personalize your pony.

Some Crazy Jump

Click to see VideoWe’ve all seen tons of jumping montage videos, and this one really isn’t that different, with the exception of the first horse…who might actually have springs on his feet.

Not The Usual

Generally I try to post something funny or informative, but when I saw this I had to share. The jump on the first animal is amazing, he could have cleared people, no problem. WOW.

Another Man Vs. Horse Race

Click to see VideoThere is nothing like a little good old fashioned inter-species competition and pitting a man against a horse is all in good fun.

Family Fun

This looks like a fairly informal event, but the crowd seems to enjoy the action. I won’t tell you who wins (you have to watch) but I will tell you that it won’t come as a big surprise.

The History of Polo

Click to see VideoI’ve never even seen a game of polo live so I know very little about this equestrian sport. Although I’ve heard bad things about how the animals are treated, I can say that about almost every facet of the horse industry.

A Little History

Here is a quick video about the history of the polo game. I thought I’d share some of the roots so everyone can better understand the game. Although it is often thought of as a game for the rich English, it actually dates back to around 500 BC in Persia.

Horse Racing As it Should Be

Click to see VideoYes, it’s an ad. But it’s a clever one and I had to share it…you don’t have to buy the product to get a good giggle over it.

A Very Different Kind of Racing

Racing as it should be, it’s time for the horses to kick up their heels and do the riding for once. This quick ad gives us a look into what that world would be like…a world where jockeys carry their horses across the finish line rather than riding them there. I love it!

Trail of Painted Ponies

Click to see VideoLast week I featured the amazing horse artist Cholla creating his very own Painted Pony. This week I thought I’d share a more general view of the Trail of Painted Ponies because it’s a really unique artistic endeavor.

How It All Began

The trail started in Santa Fe, NM as a public art project where artists transformed life sized fiberglass horse statues into works of art. Today they are collectable art pieces that celebrate both the equine animal and the art if storytelling.

Cholla’s Painted Pony

Click to see VideoAlthough it’s difficult to top last weeks video of a sidesaddle highjump this week is almost as interesting. Cholla is a horse and an artist and he likes to paint…you guessed it, horses.

Not Just Canvas

Cholla isn’t fickle and will paint almost anything & I’ve featured him & his art before. While his canvases are interesting, this time he is painting a horse figure from The Trail of Painted Ponies.

Sidesaddle High Jump

Click to see VideoFor some reason I have an irrational fear of riding sidesaddle, (I just don’t understand how you balance with both legs on one side) which makes this video absolutely terrifying to me.

It’s one thing to ride sidesaddle, quite another to jump over HUGE fences sitting sideways. High jumps are intimidating for regular riders so this rider has nerves of steel. Quite frankly, this scares the horsecrap out of me.

Jockey Helmet Cams

Click to see VideoIf you’ve ever wondered or daydreamed about what it’s like to be a jockey, today’s post is for you. The two videos below put you in the drivers seat as these jockeys train with a camera on their helmet.

Although most of you are probably riders & know what the back of a horse’s ear looks like, it’s interesting to see them in a racetrack context. Not to mention it makes me want to get on a horse and have a good gallop!

Borat at Hampton Classic Horse Show

Click to see VideoI must admit, I find Borat absolutely hilarious and in fact I think that Sacha Baron Cohen is a comical genius.

That said, he can be an acquired taste, but this clip is too funny not to share if you give it a chance. Not a part of his Borat movie, this is a clip from when he was just a lowly television star in the UK.

Remember as you are watching that his humor is cynical and wholly tongue in cheek. It’s truly amazing just how patient & impatient the woman is with him as he rambles on.
