Intro
Not a necessarily a breed in their own right, the Turkish Colored or Alaca Horse refers to pinto animals found in the country (there are quite a lot). Spotted animals are likely to mostly come from similar genetics and were likely imported to the area.
Origins
Spotted animals tend to come from Europe or Asia and may all be descendants of the same genetics to some degree. Most of the native Turkish breeds don’t carry spotting patterns, so the Alaca is comes from outside influence, which there was a lot of. They may also come from American animals imported for their flashy coloration.
They are not listed in the DAD-IS, so there is no ‘official’ information about them other than a study that was done to determine how their genetics might be different from the native horse population. Interestingly they were found to be smaller and more placid than native breeds.
