Periangan Pony

Intro

The Perinagan Pony comes from the island of Java in Indonesia and is known for being one of the more quality Indonesian ponies. They come from crossing the Java Pony with Arabian bloodlines.

Origins

Horses were brought to Indonesia around the 7th century and originally of Chinese or Mongolian descent. Centuries in a climate so different from Mongolia has shaped these tough little animals to the area and changed their physical characteristics. Arabian blood serves to refine almost any breed it influences and the Periangan is no different. This breed is not listed in the DAD-IS, so is probably considered a variant of the Java Pony. Indonesia does not appear to have any centrally controlled studbooks or breed management, so local areas on each island breed them to type for specific needs.
