Intro
A tough little pony, the Jumli or Chantey comes from the Jumla district in Nepal. Found in most of Nepal and also in Uttarakhand, India, these animals are frequently used as pack animals for Himalayan tourism.
Origins
The Nepalese have an old and ingrained equestrian culture that spans centuries, horses were considered a source of prestige by local leaders. Parts of the nation still utilize horses to transport products in such a mountainous part of the world. The Jumla district itself is extremely isolated and located in challenging topography.
The breed is known for their sure footed ability to tirelessly traverse difficult roads carrying heavy loads. Also known for being steady in snowy conditions at high altitude. These are qualities that come from an animal completely at home in their mountainous terrain.
In fact they seem to thrive, being relatively healthy and resistant to many diseases and parasites. Raised outside year around, in the summer they are left to graze in lower altitude grasslands and collected in the spring for a summer season in the mountains.
