Intro
Garabakh Horses comes from the Karabakh zone of Azerbaijan and has close ties to the Dilbaz and Karabakh breeds.
Origins
During the 17th and 18th centuries the Garabakh was further developed and is considered the oldest mountain breed in the country. Their genetic influence can be seen in some of the Caucasus breeds, including the Russian Don.
The DAD-IS shows them as a distinct breed from the Karabakh and that in 2002 there were only 120 left of the breed. Breeding programs have been put into place to preserve their important bloodlines.
