Intro
One of the most important local varieties of Chinese horses, the Debao pony was founded in 1981 and strictly protected by the Chinese Government.
Origins
While the Debao was officially recognized in 1981, they are the descendants of an ancient type (the Guoxia). Debao county, from which the pony takes its name, is home to one of the largest pony breeding and research centers in the country. This is essentially a pygmy breed and is quite small, however they are incredibly strong for their size.
