Intro
The Criollo Altiplanico is a localized variety of Criollo, raised in high tableland pastures of the Andes alongside llamas and alpacas.
Origins
There is very little documentation about the origins of this breed. Although it can be assumed that the Altiplánico is simply a highly localized offshoot of Criollo found primarily in the Andes. Probably a shorter, stronger and more robust animal than those found at lower altitude. There is another Criollo variety found on Bolivia, the Criollo Oriental which is perhaps more of a lowland model.
