Horse breeds found in South Africa, found at the southern tip of the African continent. Most breeds native to the country began during the mid to late 19th century and the Boer war at the end of the century ramped up horse production, along with increased imports from Europe.

Calvinia Horse

Intro

There were several different types of horse bred in the Cape Province, the foundation being a variety of different imported European bloodlines which contributed genetics. The Calvinia Horse is named for the town in which they were bred. This breed is listed as extinct in the DAD-IS as of 2006.
