Chahou Post Pony

Intro

The Chakouyi or Chahou Post is a breed from the Tibetan Autonomous County of Tianzhu, Yongding, and Gulang County, Ganshu Province, China.

Origins

Linked to the Silk Road, the Chahou Post pony developed along the route and were used for delivering mail. Like the Pony Express in the US, Post pony needed to be robust, calm and possess incredible stamina. As the Silk Road grew busier farms sprung up along the way to breed these ponies. As horse traffic along the route eventually disappeared, they were such good saddle horses that their breeding continued. They are particularly favored for their natural ability to amble.
