Intro
The Bale is a typical pony type horse of Ethiopia, coarse in conformation and built for the highland conditions where they live and work. This breed is used primarily for transport and as pack animals, mainly in the Bale mountains on the eastern side of the great rift valley.
Origins
A rare breed, the Bale can be found in the highlands of Bale zone and are an asset to the people that live there. Their origins are unknown and there are no official breeding programs, so there is not much documentation about them and bloodlines are blurred. Officially, there are only numbers for the Abyssinian breed, but in 2012 eight different types were identified in different regions of the country.
