Intro
Not an official breed, the American Stock Horses are not bred for breed genetics, but rather for their agility and ability to work with cattle.
Origins
There are several breeds of horse found in the US which tend to be good stock horses, including the Quarter Horse, Paint, Appaloosa, Carolina Marsh Tacky and Florida Cracker Horse.
In 2004 the National Stock Horse Association was established to formally develop a stock type horse. The US already has a rich ranch horse heritage and stock type competitions have always been common. The NSHA developed and promoted stock horse sports and developed a community around this athletic type.
