Horse Artist Interview – Sara Johani

Name
My name is Sara Mall Johani. I sign my work simply Sara. There’s a story behind it which conveys volumes to me that it’s enough. I try to keep it simple, and, as we all know, life is anything but simple.

Website & Places you can find my work online
Our main website is www.thelateralline.com. My husband and I are a team and do a lot of (art) work together, filling in the gaps with whatever our skills and strengths allow.

So there’s another project site http://soulsalmon.org, it was a very intense community non-profit effort something like the cows in Chicago and a lot of different fiberglass creatures around the world. See the interactive art parade map

We also participated as artists in a Watershed oriented art retreat where we were asked to relate to the Wenatchee watershed and its creature inhabitants along with other artists.

Horse Eyes

You don’t have to be a horse lover to appreciate the variety found in the window to their soul. Different breeds and color combinations can create some really amazing horse eyes.

The Eye of the Beholder

I started looking around and found that photographers seem to have an appreciation for the many varieties of equine eye too. Some of the images actually capture the photographer reflected in the eye, giving the photo an interesting depth.

A Brief History

Once the finest stable horses of King Louis XIV, then used by Canada’s pioneers as partners in building the country in the 1700s, rumoured that Justin Morgan’s stallion, his namesake was indeed one, the Canadian Horse or Le Cheval Canadien, is Canada’s true yet little known National breed.

Horse Jobs – Breeder

Man standing with a blue eyed horse

The horse breeder is just one part of a working breeding stable – and more often found in larger establishments. They generally report directly to a breeding manager, who oversees the operation.

A Demanding Position

This is a physically demanding position and one that requires the ability to successfully manage excited stallions, but also show compassion and consideration to working mares. Anyone who chooses this position must love the animal and be very aware.

What You Need

This is a position which benefits from lightning quick reflexes, strength of body and character and a firm belief in teamwork to accomplish goals.

The ability to think on their feet, a thorough knowledge of horseflesh and nerves of steel are all qualities well suited for being a good horse breeder.

Funky Horse Cakes

There is nothing horse people like better than a well-made horsey cake. It seems in many cases, the more life-like the better.

Some of Them Freak Me Out

I’m not so sure I’m on board with all of these, but some of them are really cute and it is fun to get ideas for treating a fellow horse lover on their birthday.

Most of them are put together by professional cake makers, but I suspect some of them were made by adventurous novice bakers too. Hats off to the artists who did a bang up job of turning equines into yummy desserts.
