  • Mountain horses
  • Horses of the plains or Myzequea

Lacking a strict breeding program designed to preserve both bloodlines, interbreeding has created an Albanian horses with fuzzy lineage.

Old Lineage

The original bloodlines of these animals are thought to come from a combination of Tarpan, Turkmenian and Mongolian horses. Later, during the Ottoman Empire they were infused with Arabian blood as well.

Breeding was focused on creating a more useful animal and the Albanian horses were bred largely for transportation.

During the 1990’s breeders became interested in making the stock more suited for agricultural work. This improved bloodlines and increased versatility of the breed.
