In creating and maintaining this site I’ve been feeding an appreciation for art more than anything else. It’s been great fun to find horse art from many different places and in many different styles.
Unique Art For A Unique Creature
Today I thought I’d stray from the norm and share something even more unique, art that celebrates the strange creature that is called Centaur. Half man, half horse – this is one creature from mythology that grapples with a real identity crisis with a notorious reputation that proceeds them.
Known for their love of drink and tendency for boisterous (& lusty) behavior, the centaur was usually trouble.
An Enigma
Along with unicorns and other creatures of mythology, the debate about whether they existed still rages to the modern day. If you like the centaur be sure to learn more about them.
You did so wonderful work again, thank you! At the railwaystation of my hometown there was a centaur – well water in front, it fascinated me as a child. Nowadays they are a part of “Harry Potter”- Stories for my daughter. And there is the erotic version like on Botticelli above – I saw this in Origianl in Frankfurt/Main last year, so nice!
Frank Frazetta did a fantastic hellish centaur called (I think ) “The Moon Maid and the Centaur” . Another one of my favorite artists who revisited the centaur theme a lot was Heinrich Kley.
