About J&M Acres
J&M Acres Horse Rescue is a non-profit rescue in Maple Ridge, BC. We rescue most of our horses from auction or from off the racetrack. Our aim is to get as many horses as we can off the meat truck and adopted into loving homes so that we are able to rescue more.
We are 100% volunteer run and are here for the purpose of rescuing horses and helping them find long-term, loving homes.
The Story
In 1995 we rescued our first horse; a badly abused oldie, dubbed “Lucky”, that was being run through the auction for slaughter. Since then we have purchased 300+ horses destined for slaughter and placed them in good homes. Our rescues are all breeds of horses and all ages from 6 months to 36 years old that have gone on to live happy, productive lives.
Annie is a Standardbred filly. She is almost 3 years old now and is roughly 14.2 hh.
Annie has been at J&M Acres for 6-8 weeks, but has now been started under saddle. She is still young and green but she is quiet and willing. We have walked, trotted and even cantered her under saddle so far. She has also been out on trail rides and does well with new surroundings. She has been making incredible progress so far and we hope that she catches someones eye soon.
China is a 15hh, 20 year old, cremello, Quarter Horse mare.
She spent the last 18 years of her life in a pasture with a halter too small before she came to J&M. She is a not broke, but she would make a great pasture mate or barn buddy for a younger horse.
Teddy is an adorable, 15.1hh, 3 year old Thoroughbred gelding.
He is still green, but he is a very sweet mannered gelding who is adores people and loves attention! He just needs someone who can spend time with him training and playing.
Crystal is roughly 16hh and is a 15 year old, Thoroughbred mare.
She is well-broke and a very friendly and experienced mare. She has been ridden in the past and walks, trots and canters well under saddle.
A big thank you to J&M Acres for the wonderful work they are doing in saving these horses!!
Hi Laura. Thank you so much 🙂 We just do what we can! You will probably be seeing some new horses for adoption next week as we are attending an auction this weekend and will be rescuing more!
