Montreal Tram Horses – Horse Image of the Week

Horse drawn tram in Montreal
This weeks image comes from Canada around 1870, this photo shows us a horse drawn tram in front of Chateau de Ramezay on Notre Dame Street in Montreal. The Chateau is still around today, but sadly the tram horse is probably not.

Why We Like It

We like these fun trips into historical horses, they were such an important part of life in the 19th century. The building in the background is Chateau de Ramezay, built for the governor of Montreal, Claude de Ramezay in 1705. The second image shows the Château today, a building notable not only for it’s age but as the first building proclaimed a historical monument in Quebec.
