Mongolia is set to welcome the world’s equestrian community in 2026 for a historic celebration of World Horse Day.
The Newest Best Holiday Ever
This is a new international observance officially designated by the United Nations. This past June, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming July 11 as World Horse Day, championed by Mongolia’s President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to honor this amazing animal’s profound role in human culture and history.
Celebration on the Mongolian Steppe
From July 11–13, 2026, the grounds of Khui Doloon Khudag, near Ulaanbaatar, will host a gathering of 10,000 riders from 56 countries. Organizers are designing a program that celebrates the horse from every angle, including everything from traditional horsemanship and cultural heritage to equine therapy, entertainment and healing arts.
Historic Honor
Mongolia’s deep equestrian roots make it the perfect host (except it’s so far away). The country’s massive horse population, which far outnumbers its people, is woven into the fabric of nomadic life. This isn’t Mongolia’s first claim to equestrian fame: at Khui Doloon Khudag in 2013, the nation set a Guinness World Record with a 3,000-horse race and a parade of 10,000 mounted riders dressed in traditional attire.
Cheers to Our Favorite Animal!
World Horse Day in Mongolia promises to be more than a celebration, it’s a tribute to the enduring bond between humans and horses. It’s also a chance for riders, breeders and enthusiasts from across the globe to come together in the spirit of equestrian heritage and friendship.
