South German Coldblood Horse

Intro

The South German Coldblood is a close relative of the Austrian Noriker as they were both initially established in Bavaria & mountainous areas of Austria.

Origins

The German version later was infused with the blood of Norman, Holstein, Cleveland Bay, Hungarian, Clydesdale & Oldenburg animals. The result was a draft animal was a degree of refinement and quicker, more agile movement.

Essentially since the original influx of new blood the South German Draft has been bred pure for the last 150 years. Although some Clydesdale & Belgian blood was added after the second World War & later that of Suffolk Punch.

Average height 16 – 16.2 hands

Head is medium in size
Eyes are expressive
Neck is strong & medium in length
Back is long & broad
Legs are strong with good joints
Hooves are hard and strong

Generally chestnut with a flaxen modifier
