Origins
The first horses were introduced to New Zealand in 1814 & by 1876 the first wild horses were recorded in the Kaimanawa mountains. The bloodlines of these feral animals was influenced by a number of other imported breeds.
Over the years these relatively small animals have grown in stature but due to the many different breed influences there is wide variety in the breed.
