Jinhong Horse

Intro

The Jinhong or Jinjiang Horse is a native, indigenous breed from the coastal province of Fujian, in the southeast of China.

Origins

This is a highly agricultural area with a strong need for a robust farm animal and breeding records date back for the last thousand years. Thought to have Arabian influence as they carry their tail high when galloping. While important to people in Fujian, they went without an official name until the end of the 20th century.

Raised mostly in isolation, they are a relatively pure breed even today. In 2006 they were registered with the National Register of Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources and breeders received grants to preserve their genetics. Two years later the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture further established protected areas for their conservation.
