Irish Hobby Horse

Intro

The Irish Hobby Horse is an extinct breed that came from the British Isles sometime before the 13th century. These bloodlines were the foundation for a number of modern Irish breeds, including the Connemara Pony and Irish Draught.

Origins

It is believed that mares of Irish Hobby breeding may have come from animals native to the British Isles which were the foundation for the English Thoroughbred.

Known for their great speed and stamina these animals were used as war mounts throughout the Middle Ages and their name is where the term ‘Hobby Horse’ comes from.
