Intro
Like most of the Central American countries, Honduras has a country bred small horse or pony that is shaped by local needs. Likely of Criollo and/or Paso Fino foundation, these tough little animals tend to be as hardy as they are versatile.
Origins
Horses originated in the Americas, but went extinct there. Luckily, some of them had made their way to the Eurasian landmass and found it favorable. It wasn’t until the Spanish came to the Americas that horses made their way back across the Atlantic. The animals they brought were fine horseflesh, but also robust and adaptable. Especially tough as only the animals that survived the boat trip across the ocean were able to reproduce. These bloodlines are still prized today. This robust foundation was further refined in some of the harsher Honduran climates and poor fodder.
