Chalosse Pony

Intro

The Chalosse pony is a native of Chalosse, France, they are in close proximity to and interrelated with the Landais pony. The influence of Berber blood and that of Eastern breeds refined their appearance.

Origins

This type has the build of a small horse and comes from the Pyrenees region. They were probably brought to the area by the Moors in the 8th century. Over the centuries they have been refined by several breeds, including Arabian and French Riding Ponies. The result is a riding pony with harmonious conformation. Slightly larger than both the Landais and barthai ponies from the same region. They are all likely related and types of the same original animals.
