Intro
Like most sport horse breeds, the Bulgarian Sport Horse is bred for performance and not necessarily to preserve specific breed genetics. The bloodlines sought are those that are athletic and strong.
Origins
Sport horse breeds tend to have been developed during the 20th or 21st centuries, although often their bloodlines come from popular cavalry mounts. Unlike some of the other sport breeds, the Bulgarian version relies most heavily on Thoroughbred blood. There isn’t much information about this particular breed, however it is possible they utilized some of the Bulgarian native blood. Today they are at risk and according to the DAD-IS in 2024 there were 231 left.
