Bucovina Horse

Intro

The purebred is a Romanian part-bred Hutzel (Huzel) with infusion of draught horse blood & they are extremely rare.

Origins

This breed is a slightly heavier animal, suitable for riding, draught work and logging. It retains the toughness, economy and tractability of the Hutzel. The roan coat color some Bucovina have suggests a proportion of Ardennes blood. Which is not a surprise since Ardennes were introduced into Romania after the Second World War to regenerate local stock.

The Bucovina name does not appear in the DAD-IS, so we assume that they are also called Romanian Draft horses. While their risk status is unclear, as of 2003 there were only about 100 left.
