Intro
The Bhirum Pony or Nigerian Pony is a dwarf breed from northern regions of Nigeria. This breed is thought to be a descendant of the little known Poney Mousseye of Cameroon.
Origins
This pony probably also has Barb influence, when they were brought to Nigeria by Nomads. They were were bred to local ponies and the resulting animal became the Bhirum Pony. They are generally considered a type of West African Dongola or West African Barb (sometimes referred to as degenerate Barbs – probably by pureblood Barb breeders).
The Nigerian is a large pony breed, although they are occasionally referred to as small horses. These animals are incredibly versatile and can resist the heat of their environment.
