Belgian Vanner Horse

Intro

Vanner horses are the product of a variety of draft, horse and pony breed crosses. Known for their handsome spots and flashy movement.

Origins

While their bloodlines have a long history, most of it was oral so on paper the Irish Cob is a rather new breed. Breeding was generally a family affair and the people who bred them are traditionally nomadic in their lifestyle. Vanners were bred for temperament and size to pull the bright caravans of the travelers. Loved and recognized around the world, their breeding programs have become more centralized in recent years.

In Belgium, the colorful breed is also appreciated and they breed their own strain which is listed as a local Breed in the DAD-IS.
